Summertime is a great time to pour over prospects throughout the NHL. Over at the NHL Network, they unveiled their top 50 NHL prospects list on Friday evening. Among the 50 players listed were a trio of Calgary Flames prospects: goaltender Dustin Wolf and forwards Matt Coronato and Jakob Pelletier.
Wolf was listed at 29th, third among goaltenders on the list, just behind Minnesota Wild pick Jesper Wallstedt (21st) and Nashville Predators pick Yaroslav Askarov (22nd) and just ahead of Buffalo Sabres pick Devon Levi (30th).
Wolf was selected 214th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft and since being selected, he’s been really, really good. He was named the Western Hockey League’s top goaltender in both 2019-20 and 2020-21 and the top goaltender in the American Hockey League in 2021-22 and 2022-23. He was also named the AHL’s most valuable player in 2022-23. Wolf made his NHL debut against San Jose in Calgary’s final game of the regular season, picking up his first career win.
Coronato was listed at 43rd. He was selected 13th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. He played two seasons at Harvard University, emerging as a really reliable 200-foot player and timely goal-scorer, and signed with the Flames at the tail-end of his sophomore season. He made his NHL debut in the final game of the regular season in the same game that Wolf debuted in.
Pelletier was listed at 49th. He was selected 26th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. He went pro in the 2021-22 season, emerging as a really strong AHLer as a rookie with the Stockton Heat and getting named to the AHL’s all-rookie team. He made his NHL debut midway through the 2022-23 season and suited up for 24 games for the Flames, scoring three goals and registering seven points.
