In advance of everybody assembling for the main training camp group next week, the Calgary Flames have announced new jersey numbers for a trio of players – one player’s a holdover, the other two are new arrivals.
Per the club, Jakob Pelletier has traded in #49 for #22, while newcomers Yegor Sharangovich and Jordan Oesterle have been assigned #17 and #82, respectively.
Pelletier was originally assigned #49 in his first training camp way back in 2019. But after spending 24 games with the big club last season, he seems primed to carve out an everyday spot. And for some players, an everyday spot means getting an everyday number.
Pelletier becomes the 25th Flame to wear #22, following in the footsteps of such franchise luminaries as Rich Kromm, Ronnie Stern, Craig Conroy and Daymond Langkow. The number was most recently worn by Trevor Lewis.
Sharangovich wore #17 throughout his time with the New Jersey Devils, so this gives him a bit of continuity.
Sharangovich becomes the 24th Flame to wear #17, following players like Jamie Hislop, Jiri Hrdina, Chris Clark, Rene Bourque and Lance Bouma. The number was most recently worn by Milan Lucic.
Oesterle has worn #82 throughout his NHL career, consistently during his stops in Edmonton, Chicago, Arizona and Detroit. He’ll be the first player to wear that jersey in a regular season game for the Flames.
