One of the newest Calgary Flames has hit the century mark in points
With a goal in the second period of Monday’s game, Andrei Kuzemenko now has 100 points in his National Hockey League career. The goal came on the power play with the winger behind the net. Kuzmenko started with the puck looking like he was going to wrap it around before bringing it to his forehand and tucking it on the same side he was on.
The 28-year-old spent eight seasons in the Kontinental Hockey League before coming to North America to play with the Vancouver Canucks. In his first season, he scored 39 goals and 74 points, finishing tied for first in the former and fourth in the latter category.
Kuzmenko didn’t find the same success with the contending Canucks in 2023-24, scoring just eight goals and 21 points in 43 games. At the end of January, he was involved in the Elias Lindholm trade that also saw  the Canucks give up a 2024 first-round pick, a conditional 2024 fourth-round pick, and prospects Hunter Brzustewicz and Joni Jurmo. Since joining the Flames, Kuzmenko has four goals and five points in 10 games.
In 14 games with the Canucks, Lindholm has four goals and six points. He’s had two games with two goals, including his debut game on Feb. 6 and another one on Feb. 15. There’s clearly some adjustments to be made, but the Flames did a good piece of business here.
Kuzmenko has a cap hit of $5.5 million until the end of the 2024-25 season, and depending on how the Flames do during next season, they may be able to capitalize on Kuzmenko’s trade value if he can find his 2022-23 form.
Either way, we’re lucky that Kuzmenko is a Flame, because he sure is an exciting player to watch, especially when he is scoring!
