Andrew Mangiapane earns first NHL point

In a game where Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano celebrated a big milestone, a Flames rookie hit a milestone of his own. Andrew Mangiapane had an assist on the Flames’ first goal in their game against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday night for his first National Hockey League point.

Mangiapane effectively made the goal happen by using his speed to cut between a pair of Coyotes players in the neutral zone and grab a loose puck. After he entered the zone, he passed it to Derek Ryan, who teed it up for Giordano’s shot.

The Flames’ sixth round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, Mangiapane has suited up for nine games this season. He and Dillon Dube have functionally been rotating through the fourth line left wing spot for most of the season. Both have been decent, but neither has really grabbed hold of the job as of yet.

It’s Mangiapane’s turn to make a case for full-time employment, and he finally has a point to show for it.
