Calgary is getting a bit lucky because they get Halak right out of the break instead of all-world goalie Igor Shesterkin. The Rangers are very middle of the road in terms of 5v5 play – not overly good or bad. They get their strengths from above-average goaltending and a powerplay that could leave you with scorch marks. They like to play tough but good speed and better chances is all it should take to beat them.

Primary Bet – NYR to score a PP goal (-105)

The single best thing they employ is a power play with Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, and Chris Kreider in tight around the net. Tremendous players that find ways to execute consistently. Calgary tends to take a lot of penalties so this is a safe bet in my eyes.

Secondary Bet – Andrew Mangiapane over 2.5 shots (+125)

First day back, the Flames’ priority is going to be shooting the puck a lot. The semi-designated shooter on the Flames line that is constantly the best at being in the offensive zone is Mangiapane – plus positive odds on the line.

Tertiary Bet – CGY Flames over 34+ shots on goal (-134)

That amount seems low for a Flames team that always is seemingly pushing 40. The Rangers are better at stopping the shots – not preventing them. I think this one will hit easy.
