Montreal comes in boasting both a sub-par attack, a sub-par defence, and absolutely no expectations for this season. It’s a wild card came to be sure, especially when you factor in the emotional sentiment for Sean Monahan – the one former Flame returning this season that everyone is going to absolutely cheer for without question. Calgary should win this game – by more than a few goals. Markstrom needs to be sharp and Calgary needs to expand on the performance from the last game to get something going here.

Primary Bet – Calgary Flames to win Puck Line -1.5 (-120)

Translated into normal words for the non-bettors looking to dip their toes in, I’m banking Calgary wins by 2+ goals. Goaltending will be the only thing that stops this from occurring in my mind. Markstrom being off or (presumably) Jake Allen going above and beyond.

Secondary Bet – Calgary Flames 34+ shots on goal (-118)

I don’t know why the shot prop is set so low for this game as Montreal tends to let people shoot from everywhere and often, so if this one doesn’t hit colour me genuinely surprised.

Tertiary Bet – Sean Monahan to get 1+ points (-110)

Every now and then I’ll go beyond the numbers and go with a gut pick – so far this year I’m 1/2 on those. Sean Monahan, oh how we miss you. I sincerely hope the Saddledome is as loud as possible for the warrior that gave up both his hips to try and win hockey games for Calgary. No doubt in my mind if he scores the whole place will be filled with raucous cheers – yes even for an opposing goal.
Remember to bet safe and have fun!
