What exactly are this years version of the Washington Capitals – they aren’t overwhelmingly good or bad in either direction. A team that can beat you by 5 or lose by 5 on any given night, but if you give them power play opportunities Ovechkin will burn you. Calgary has the better structure, Washington has players with better shooting percentages. Close game coming unless the Flames get goalie’d again like they did against Allen.

Primary Bet – Calgary Flames moneyline AND over 5.5 goals (+165)

I’m going big with the first one and it goes against everything believe in. The numbers say Calgary is the better team and they have home ice advantage so picking them for the moneyline is easy. I just get worried that if 6 goals get scored Calgary won’t have the 4 or 5 it takes for the win. Can’t keep scoring under 3 every game when they get the chances they’ve been getting.

Secondary bet – Jonathan Huberdeau to get 1+ points (-188)

He’s had about 7 or 8 games in a row where he’s had over 55% of the expected goals – some games above 70%. That’s been whether paired with Lindholm or Backlund as his pivot. Huberdeau should be above point per game already if his linemates start finishing off his chances. If anyone can start clicking Huberdeau is generating enough to have 2 point nights regularly.

Tertiary Bet – Alex Ovechkin anytime goal scorer (+135)

He’s the best pure goal scorer to ever play hockey. Better than Hull was, better than Bossy was, better than everyone. Easy choice.
