The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety has levied a fine against a Calgary Flames forward for conduct in Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. Per a league release, Blake Coleman has been fined $5,000 for slew-footing Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois.
The incident occurred late in the first period. Dubois was called for holding Coleman as he attempted to get to the net-front area, but Coleman also took down Dubois in the process and was called for tripping on the same play. The play was reviewed – pretty much everything is reviewed by Player Safety following a game – and the league determined that Coleman’s actions merited additional discipline.
This is the second time in Coleman’s Flames tenure that he’s run afoul of Player Safety, oddly enough both times in games against the Winnipeg Jets. He missed the season-opener in 2021-22 due to a boarding suspension levied after a pre-season hit on Jets forward Jansen Harkins.
This is the first fine or suspension for any Flames players in the 2022-23 season.
