The Calgary Flames have announced their opening roster for the 2022-23 season.
The Flames will begin the season with 22 players on their roster: two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards, as well as one player on the non-roster list and two players on the injury reserve.
Here are the opening 22 active players:
Goaltenders Jacob Markstrom (#25) and Dan Vladar (#80)
Defensemen Connor Mackey (#3), Rasmus Andersson (#4), Chris Tanev (#8), Nikita Zadorov (#16), MacKenzie Weegar (#52), Nicolas Meloche (#53) and Noah Hanifin (#55)
Forwards Jonathan Huberdeau (#10), Mikael Backlund (#11), Milan Lucic (#17), Blake Coleman (#20), Kevin Rooney (#21), Trevor Lewis (#22), Brett Ritchie (#24), Elias Lindholm (#28), Dillon Dube (#29), Adam Ruzicka (#63), Tyler Toffoli (#73), Andrew Mangiapane (#88) and Nazem Kadri (#91)
On the non-roster list is Oliver Kylington (#58). Because he’s on a one-way deal, his full cap hit is reflected for the Flames.
On the season-opening injured reserve are Martin Pospisil (#76) and Emilio Pettersen (#78). Because they’re on two-way deals and spent zero days in the NHL last season, neither carries a cap hit.
New faces from last year’s opening roster include Mackey, Weegar and Meloche on the blueline, as well as Huberdeau, Rooney, Ruzicka, Toffoli and Kadri among the forwards. That’s eight of 22 players being new Flames compared to last October’s opening roster.
The Flames have $81.325 million in cap commitments and $1.175 million in space available under the daily salary cap.
Michael Stone, who was in training camp on a try-out, has not been signed as of yet, but the club has sufficient cap and roster space to do so. Stone skated on a pairing with Nikita Zadorov during Monday’s practice, per the lines and pairings our pal Pat Steinberg tweeted, and he still has a roster stall in the Flames room. He would need to be signed by Thursday at 3 p.m. MT (and be on the NHL roster) to be eligible to dress for the season-opening game against Colorado.
