If nothing else, Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter is always Darryl Sutter.
The Flames had a day off in St. Louis on Wednesday, in-between a pair of games against the Blues. When asked by Sportsnet’s Eric Francis what he did with his day off, Sutter remained completely on-brand: he was visiting horses.
For the un-initiated, the Budweiser Clydesdales are a famous team of horses who have appeared in several ads for the brewery over the years, and are used for promotional appearances all around North America. They are, for lack of a better term, a set of gigantic horses who pull wagons as a team. As far as horses go, they’re quite impressive. Sutter, in his non-hockey days, runs his family’s farm just outside Viking, Alberta.
The Budweiser Brewery Experience, located roughly a 10 minute drive south of the Enterprise Center, the Blues’ home rink, offers daily tours where you can visit the clydesdales and learn all about them. Given Sutter’s interests, personal background, and his overall vibe, him spending his day off checking out horses is entirely what you would expect him to be doing.
The Flames complete their two game set with the Blues on Thursday night.
