Calgary Flames prospect Matt Coronato nominated for Hobey Baker Award

1 year agoA Calgary Flames top prospect is in contention for a major collegiate award. 2021 first-round pick Matt Coronato, a sophomore at Harvard University, has been nominated by his school for the first stage of voting for the Hobey Baker Award.
The first stage is fan balloting, where coaches nominate the top players in their conference and the fan balloting long(est) list is made. The fan balloting is taken into account when putting together the long list, the top 10 contenders, which are included in a second fan vote. The winner of the award is chosen by a committee from the top three contenders from the long list.
Several former Flames have won the Hobey Baker over the years, including Brendan Morrison (1997), Chris Drury (1998), Jordan Leopold (2002) and Johnny Gaudreau (2014).

“Coronato, a sophomore forward from Greenlawn, N.Y., is off to a fast start, recording 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 17 contests to start the year. After leading all NCAA first-years with 1.06 points per contest in 2021-22, Coronato is among the nation’s best once again, averaging 1.18 points per game (19th, NCAA). Playing in all situations for the Crimson, Coronato has once again scored many of Harvard’s biggest goals of the year thus far in 2022-23.”
