Folks, we’re now into the third month of the National Hockey League season (and the fourth month for the many leagues that began their seasons back in September). A lot of players have already played a lot of hockey, many of them in hockey’s lower levels.
So let’s see how these Calgary Flames prospects are doing!

This and that:

  • D Johannes Kinnvall and G Tyler Parsons are on the Flames’ season-opening injury reserve after suffering injuries.

Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1211617915937.52
Change from last week
Beck hasn’t played in three weeks due to an unspecified injury.

Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s third round pick (80th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1316765414.70
Change from last week2011111-0.19
Notre Dame was off this week, as their only game was postponed due to COVID issues with Boston College.

Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1836967412.38
Change from last week3000000-0.73
Ciona remains a fixture in Seattle’s top nine (that’s good) and has avoided his previous penalty trouble troubles (also good), but he hasn’t been a very consistent offensive presence for the Thunderbirds (that’s bad).

Matthew Coronato – RW, Harvard University Crimson, NCAA/HE

Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #1-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date9461079725.51
Change from last week1000000-3.19
Coronato had many shots but no points in Harvard’s one game this week. He was invited to USA Hockey’s World Junior selection camp, though, and is a strong contender to make their final roster for the tournament.

Walker Duehr – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date722433322.77
Change from last week2011111-1.14
Duehr is back from three weeks in the NHL. He picked up an assist in his return to action.

Lucas Feuk – LW, Västerviks IK, HockeyAllsvenskan / Nybro Vikings IF, HockeyEttan

Calgary’s fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Allsvenskan up to date101122116.51
Change from last week1000000-0.72
HockeyEttan up to date5022211n/a
Change from last week
Feuk returned to play on Tuesday after missing two weeks with an injury, playing as the extra forward.

Ryan Francis – C, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s fifth round pick (143rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #8-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
AHL up to date40000000.00
Change from last weekn/a
QMJHL up to date115914511329.64
Change from last week2123221+1.18
Francis has been back in the QMJHL for awhile now and he’s seemingly now finding his offensive swagger. He’s had a couple weeks of more than a point-per-game, but he’s still a bit reliant on the power play for scoring than you’d hope to see from an overage forward.

Glenn Gawdin – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

St. Louis’ fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft; free agent signing; #10-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date133111498642.92
Change from last week2101010-4.18
Gawdin had a power play goal as his lone point this week.

Emil Heineman – LW, Leksands IF, SHL/CHL

Florida’s second round pick (43rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; acquired via trade; #14-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
SHL up to date2381979719.12
Change from last week3303232+4.46
CHL up to date7415454n/a
Change from last week
Heineman is quietly one of the more interesting players in the system. He had a goal in each of Leksands’ three games this week as one of the team’s youngest players, and he’s found a nice niche for himself on their bottom six.

Cole Huckins – LW, Acadie-Bathurst Titan, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (77th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #19-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2099181215920.96
Change from last week2224242+2.85
Huckins had a good week, with back-to-back multi-point games.

Cole Jordan – D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL

Calgary’s fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date20000000.00
Change from last week
Jordan hasn’t played since Oct. 2 with what’s listed on the WHL weekly report as an illness.

Rory Kerins – C, Soo Greyhounds, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #18-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2111213219241540.36
Change from last week3134343-0.84
Kerins remains one of the organization’s best offensive prospects, with as many assists as he has games played (both this week and this season) along with several goals. He’s good for about one even strength point per game, more or less, along with some power play production.

Justin Kirkland – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Nashville’s third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1533625115.94
Change from last week2011010+0.61
Kirkland continues to be an effective supporting player for Stockton, albeit not a big offensive presence. Two even strength points in 15 games screams “minor league depth.”

Demetrios Koumontzis – LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA/Ind.

Calgary’s fourth round pick (108th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1443766613.65
Change from last week2213333+4.55
Koumontzis is a college senior who’s not a huge offensive presence for Arizona State. But he had a big weekend in a pair of games against Bemidji State with two goals and an assist. (The Sun Devils split the weekend series.)

Yan Kuznetsov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s second round pick (50th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #15-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date120000000.00
Change from last week1000000n/a
Kuznetsov remains in the third pairing rotation. With Kevin Gravel injured, he came back in to Stockton’s second game after being a scratch in their first game.

Connor Mackey – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing; #7-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1504424210.63
Change from last week2000000-1.63
Mackey had a quiet offensive week, which is in keeping with his relatively quiet offensive season thus far.

Mitchell Mattson – C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s fifth round pick (126th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date81122226.83
Change from last week
Michigan State was off this week.

Ilya Nikolaev – C, Tri-City Storm, USHL

Calgary’s third round pick (88th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date155101579522.96
Change from last week2112110-4.17
Nikolaev had a busy week. One game saw him register a goal, an assist, and a boarding major and game misconduct. It appears that he escaped suspension for the boarding incident, though.

Josh Nodler – C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s fifth round pick (150th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date14471149421.45
Change from last week
Michigan State was off this week.

Jakob Pelletier – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s first round pick (26th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft; #3-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date15710171013645.17
Change from last week2101010-3.88
With Adam Ruzicka in the NHL, Pelletier is now outright Stockton’s leading scorer. He’s been a little reliant on the power play, but he’s a rookie and he keeps scoring (or assisting) on key goals in game-tying or game-winning situations. For a 20-year-old, it’s tough to nitpick Pelletier’s performance too much: he’s been excellent.

Emilio Pettersen – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (167th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft; #11-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1304441112.26
Change from last week1011111-2.30
Pettersen had an odd week. He was a healthy scratch for Stockton’s first game, then got back into the lineup after Matthew Phillips was put into the COVID protocol. In that game, he registered an assist. With Pelletier and Duehr emerging as call-up options, Pettersen’s sort of been the forgotten man for the Heat.

Matthew Phillips – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; #5-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date145813812837.01
Change from last week1000000-2.84
Phillips missed one game this week after he was placed into the COVID protocol.

Luke Philp – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1562857421.25
Change from last week2000000-3.27
Philp was held off the scoresheet this past week.

Jérémie Poirier – D, Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (72nd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #9-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date236162216131122.28
Change from last week3134433+1.32
Poirier had points in every game he played in this past week, including a two point game. He’s put up a fairly impressive amount of even strength points given his role as an offensive blueliner.

Colton Poolman – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date120221006.64
Change from last week2000000-1.33
After getting two assists last week, Poolman was quiet this week.

Martin Pospisil – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s fourth round pick (105th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft; #16-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date933635326.57
Change from last week2112121+10.63
Pospisil returned from injury this week and got back to work, with points in each game this week. His size and skill make him a really intriguing prospect, but he needs to stay healthy in order to force his way into the call-up conversation. (He may be the worst combination of talented but unlucky so far in his pro career.)

Adam Ruzicka – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s fourth round pick (109th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft; #6-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1310616913949.05
Change from last week
Ruzicka has been called up to the NHL.

Ilya Solovyov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s seventh round pick (205th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #20-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date70000000.00
Change from last week2000000n/a
Solovyov remains looking for his first AHL point. He registered four shots on goal this week, but hasn’t been able to get on the scoresheet.

William Strömgren – LW, Rögle BK, J20 Nationell/CHL

Calgary’s second round pick (45th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #13-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
J20 up to date248142213151114.51
Change from last week1000000-0.63
CHL up to date1123121n/a
Change from last week
Strömgren played once and didn’t register a point.

Eetu Tuulola – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (156th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1021333311.96
Change from last week2000000-2.98
Tuulola played twice and didn’t register a point.

Cameron Whynot – D, Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (89th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date20291145212.81
Change from last week3022111+0.48
Whynot hasn’t had a terribly impressive offensive season to date – four even strength points in 20 games isn’t amazing – but he had an effective stretch of games this week.

Connor Zary – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s first round pick (24th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #2-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date71010105.69
Change from last week2000000-2.28
Zary played twice and didn’t hit the scoresheet. Heck, he didn’t even register a shot on goal. He’s still looking for his swagger and rhythm after breaking his foot in prospect camp.

Dmitry Zavgorodniy – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s seventh round pick (198th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date60000000.00
Change from last week
Zavgorodniy was scratched twice.

Daniil Chechelev – G, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL

Calgary’s fourth round pick (96th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
GPTOISV%
Up to date4242.902
Change from last week2124-.001
Chechelev played twice and saw a lot of shots for Kansas City. He didn’t pick up any victories unfortunately, but it’s important that he gets some reps in after being idle (in terms of game action) since February.

Arsenii Sergeev – G, Tri-City Storm, USHL

Calgary’s seventh round pick (205th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPTOISV%
Up to date12720.949
Change from last week160-.002
Sergeev had a bad week by his standards, giving up two goals. He remains the USHL’s leader in basically every goaltending category and one of that circuit’s best players regardless of position.

Adam Werner – G, Stockton Heat, AHL

Colorado’s fifth round pick (131st overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GPTOISV%
Up to date6362.882
Change from last week160-.017
Werner allowed five even strength goals in a Stockton loss. (In his defense, it was the game that Kevin Gravel missed and so Stockton’s defensive pairings became a bit of a jumbled mess.)

Dustin Wolf – G, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s seventh round pick (214th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #4-ranked prospect
GPTOISV%
Up to date9548.932
Change from last week162+.001
Wolf allowed a pair of goals in a Stockton overtime win. The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the most consistently effective goaltenders in the AHL.
