Calgary Flames prospect update: a quiet start to the New Year

By Ryan Pike
1 year agoIt’s a new year, friends, as the calendar has flipped over into 2022. Some leagues are chugging along, while some leagues have seen their schedules hampered by the omicron variant of COVID-19. As a result, the last couple of weeks have been somewhat quiet for a lot of the farmhands.
Let’s check in on the Calgary Flames’ prospects and see who’s managed to keep their momentum going.
This and that:
- D Johannes Kinnvall and G Tyler Parsons are on the Flames’ season-opening injury reserve after suffering injuries.
- We’re not including Juuso Välimäki’s AHL run in here because (a) it’s been seven games and (b) he’s played enough NHL games that we no longer consider him a prospect.
- The QMJHL has paused for a few weeks due to COVID-19 surges, so there will be no games until January 17.
Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 12 | 11 | 6 | 17 | 9 | 15 | 9 | 37.52 |

Beck remains injured and is listed as week-to-week. He hasn’t played since Nov. 7.
Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10
Calgary’s third round pick (80th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft

Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -1.34 |
Notre Dame split a pair of games with Niagara, but Boltmann didn’t hit the scoresheet.
Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 26 | 5 | 8 | 13 | 10 | 9 | 6 | 12.38 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Ciona missed Seattle’s games over the past two weeks due to an unspecified injury.
Matthew Coronato – RW, Harvard University Crimson, NCAA/HE
Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #1-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 11 | 6 | 6 | 12 | 9 | 11 | 9 | 25.05 |
Change from last week | – | – | – | – | – | – | – | – |
Harvard returned to action after the winter break, but Coronato was given a brief post World Juniors break to go see his family and so he missed that game.
Walker Duehr – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 18 | 4 | 3 | 7 | 3 | 5 | 3 | 15.50 |

Duehr registered an assist this past two weeks, more or less maintaining his modest but consistent offensive output from essentially the entire season.
Lucas Feuk – LW, Västerviks IK, HockeyAllsvenskan / Nybro Vikings IF/Väsby IK, HockeyEttan
Calgary’s fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 2 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 3 | 1 | – |
Feuk scored three goals this past two weeks. His loan with Väsby was also extended until the end of the season, so he’ll be in Sweden’s third level of pro hockey for the remainder of the season. It’s not a bad league, but it produces so few NHL players that there’s no NHLe coefficient for it.
Ryan Francis – C, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL
Calgary’s fifth round pick (143rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #8-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -5.70 |
Gawdin, for once, went entirely silent over the last couple weeks from an offensive standpoint. He remains one of Stockton’s most useful players and one of their top offensive players.
Emil Heineman – LW, Leksands IF, SHL/CHL
Florida’s second round pick (43rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; acquired via trade; #14-ranked prospect

The QMJHL is on a COVID pause.
Cole Jordan – D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL
Calgary’s fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 10 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4.95 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -2.13 |
Jordan was held off the scoresheet this past two weeks. And he won’t get a chance to get off that goose-egg for a little bit, as Moose Jaw’s been shut down for at least a week due to a COVID outbreak within the team.
Rory Kerins – C, Soo Greyhounds, OHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #18-ranked prospect

Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | -1.74 |
Kirkland had two goals over the past two weeks, a big leap forward offensively for a veteran player who hasn’t really scored much this season.
Demetrios Koumontzis – LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA/Ind.
Calgary’s fourth round pick (108th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 22 | 4 | 6 | 10 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 12.41 |
