The Calgary Flames season is currently paused, but before too long NHL games will be back. In the meantime, the vast majority of the club’s young prospects remain active throughout the hockey world.
Let’s conduct our weekly check-in!

This and that:

  • D Johannes Kinnvall and G Tyler Parsons are on the Flames’ season-opening injury reserve after suffering injuries.
  • We’re not including Juuso Välimäki’s AHL run in here because (a) it’s been six games and (b) he’s played enough NHL games that we no longer consider him a prospect.
  • The QMJHL has paused for a few weeks due to COVID-19 surges, so there will be no games until January 7.

Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1211617915937.52
Change from last week
Beck remains injured and is listed as week-to-week. He hasn’t played since Nov. 7. Despite this, he remains out of the top goal-scorers in the OHL.

Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s third round pick (80th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1717875412.84
Change from last week
Notre Dame was off this week. They’re back in action on Jan. 1 against Niagara University.

Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date265813109612.38
Change from last week2101111n/a
Ciona hasn’t moved the needle a ton this season offensively, but he’s been fairly consistent in all three zones for the Thunderbirds. He’s also been quite consistent offensively, good for a point every two games almost like clockwork.

Matthew Coronato – RW, Harvard University Crimson, NCAA/HE

Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #1-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date116612911925.05
Change from last week2202222-0.46
Harvard was off this week. Coronato was named to Team USA’s roster for the World Juniors, so he’ll likely miss Harvard’s games on Jan. 2, Jan. 7 and Jan. 8. (World Junior games run until Jan. 6, but travel will probably wipe out the last two games.)

Walker Duehr – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1542634315.94
Change from last week3202121+2.66
Duehr continues to chug along. He’s not a high-end offensive talent, but he’s been quite good at picking his spots for Stockton. He had a two-goal game this week.

Lucas Feuk – LW, Västerviks IK, HockeyAllsvenskan / Nybro Vikings IF/Väsby IK, HockeyEttan

Calgary’s fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Allsvenskan up to date101122116.51
Change from last week
HockeyEttan up to date10167544n/a
Change from last week2011111
Feuk continues to be completely adequate in Sweden’s third division. Reports are that his loan ends at the end of December, and it’s unclear what will happen with him once that occurs.

Ryan Francis – C, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s fifth round pick (143rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #8-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
AHL up to date40000000.00
Change from last weekn/a
QMJHL up to date18617231217929.76
Change from last week2033111+0.65
Francis has seemingly found his offensive swagger again. He’s on a four game point streak. He hasn’t scored a goal since Dec. 4, but he’s still having a positive on-ice impact for the Sea Dogs.

Glenn Gawdin – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

St. Louis’ fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft; free agent signing; #10-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date219152415151145.55
Change from last week3000000-7.59
We hope you’re sitting down: Gawdin went quiet this week, registering zero points. He’s still one of the top 200-foot players in the AHL and one of Stockton’s top players, but he just… couldn’t bury anything this week.

Emil Heineman – LW, Leksands IF, SHL/CHL

Florida’s second round pick (43rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; acquired via trade; #14-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
SHL up to date2784121011921.72
Change from last week
CHL up to date9415454n/a
Change from last week
Leksands is back in action on Boxing Day.

Cole Huckins – LW, Acadie-Bathurst Titan, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (77th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #19-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2411112216181221.35
Change from last week2112211+0.18
Huckins feels like a less physical, more offensively impactful version of Lucas Ciona. He gets on the scoresheet in almost every game, but usually only with a single point.

Cole Jordan – D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL

Calgary’s fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date71121117.08
Change from last week2011000+2.13
Jordan returned from what was apparently a lower-body injury last week – for whatever reason, the WHL’s weekly injury report called it an illness… Anyhow, he’s cementing himself as an all-situations defender with the Warriors, with reports from the rink that he was tremendously unlucky to only get the single assist this week.

Rory Kerins – C, Soo Greyhounds, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #18-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2614304427332244.82
Change from last week3145343-0.09
Kerins gonna Kerins. The forward remained among the top offensive players in the OHL with two multi-point games sandwiched around a zero point game.

Justin Kirkland – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Nashville’s third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2235836214.49
Change from last week2000000-1.45
Kirkland was quiet in Stockton’s first two games, then missed the third due to an injury.

Demetrios Koumontzis – LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA/Ind.

Calgary’s fourth round pick (108th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2045977712.29
Change from last week2011000+0.15
Koumontzis had an assist. Arizona State are back in action Jan. 1 against Cornell.

Yan Kuznetsov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s second round pick (50th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #15-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
AHL up to date120000000.00
Change from last week
QMJHL up to date412312119.86
Change from last week2022010+6.62
It’s early but Kuznetsov is settling in nice with Saint John. He had a pair of power play helpers: one primary and one secondary.

Connor Mackey – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing; #7-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2331114712524.26
Change from last week3011111-1.64

Mitchell Mattson – C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA/Big10

Change from last week

Ilya Nikolaev – C, Tri-City Storm, USHL

Calgary’s third round pick (88th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2161319913721.75
Change from last week2101111-1.21
Another week, another goal for Nikolaev. He’s falling off his point-per-game pace a little bit, though.

Josh Nodler – C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s fifth round pick (150th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date18471149416.69

Jakob Pelletier – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Up to date2310172718201246.78

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

Pettersen went scoreless this week.

Matthew Phillips – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; #5-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date209122116181441.84
Change from last week3011111-5.04
Like Gawdin, Phillips went somewhat quiet this week, registering just a single helper.

Luke Philp – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date23771459424.26
Change from last week3112010+0.35
Philp had a shorthanded goal and an empty net assist this week.

Jérémie Poirier – D, Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (72nd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #9-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date309233223201524.84
Change from last week2022110-0.11
Poirier cashed in with another two assists. He’s been very consistent for Saint John this season.. He’s 3rd among QMJHL defenders in points. Coincidentally, Saint John just traded for the 4th leading defensive  scorer this week as they continue to load up for the Memorial Cup.

Colton Poolman – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

Pospisil missed two games this week with another injury. Hopefully it’s not serious, because the kid has had the worst injury luck of anybody in the organization.

Adam Ruzicka – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s fourth round pick (109th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft; #6-ranked prospect
