In advance of development camp beginning its on-ice component, the Calgary Flames’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Wranglers, has signed five players to AHL contracts for the upcoming season.
Inked by the Wranglers are goaltenders Connor Murphy and Matt Radomsky, defenceman Jarrod Gourley, and forwards Mark Duarte and Alex Gallant.
Connor Murphy
A recent product of Union College – where he was captain – Murphy went 12-17-1 with an .889 save percentage in 31 games last season with the Dutchmen. He joined the Wranglers briefly at the end of last season on a try-out.
Matt Radomsky
A recent product of the University of Alaska-Fairbanks – he spent three seasons at Holy Cross and then transferred – Radomsky went 22-10-2 with a .916 save percentage in 34 games last season. He joined the Wranglers at the end of the season on a try-out and dressed once as Oscar Dansk’s back when Dustin Wolf was up with the Flames making his NHL debut.
Jarrod Gourley
Gourley’s an interesting depth option. He split last season between the AHL’s Utica Comets (2 points in 8 games) and ECHL Adirondack Thunder (13 points in 38 games) and played in the ECHL All-Star Game. He’s originally from Calgary.
Mark Duarte
A right shot from the Soo Greyhounds, Duarted had 48 points in 65 games during his overage junior season. He’s aged out of major junior. He joined the Wranglers briefly at the end of the season on a try-out.
Alex Gallant
Now entering his 11th season of pro hockey, this PEI product is returning for his fifth season with the Flames organization on an AHL deal. He had six points in 46 games for the Wranglers last season, along with 114 penalty minutes. That tells you all you really need to know about him: he’s a depth forward relied upon for physicality and occasionally scrapping with the other team.
