Calgary has topped the Canucks in four of their last five overall meetings, a run that now features a pair of shutout victories on home ice. The shutout also marked the first time the Flames have blanked an opponent on Saddledome ice since early November 2019. Despite the Flames’ ability to shut down the Canucks in recent home meetings, powering the UNDER to a 3-1 run, the total sits at 6.0 at sports betting sites for Monday’s matchup.
Unlike in Thursday night’s 4-3 season-opening loss in Winnipeg, the Flames managed to protect their early lead in Saturday’s contest, outshooting the Canucks by a 28-21 margin over the final two frames. The challenge now facing Calgary is posting consecutive victories at home, something the team has managed to do just once since early January of last year. The Flames have struggled in contests immediately following a shutout, falling to defeat in four of their past six, with at least six total goals getting scored in four of those contests.
The Canucks look to rebound from Saturday’s loss, and are listed as +115 underdogs for Monday night. Vancouver has now scored just two total goals over its past two contests, extending a worrisome trend that has seen them score two or fewer goals in six of nine regular season road dates since early February 2020. However, they have a strong track rebound of bouncing back from shutout losses, posting a victory in five of seven games following a shutout defeat last season.
Vancouver is hoping to get a lift from the return of forward J.T. Miller, who saw the start of his season delayed after being forced to remain in COVID-19 related quarantine for the past week. Miller led the Canucks with 27 goals and 72 points last season, but has historically struggled to generate points in dates with Calgary, recording just one total goal and seven assists in 13 career games.
