Dustin Wolf is recipient of 2022-23 PHPA Game Saving Goalie Award

Calgary Flames prospect, and Calgary Wranglers goaltender, Dustin Wolf was one of the four recipient goaltenders of the 2022-23 PHPA Game Saving Goalie Award, which is voted on by the players. One goaltender from the ECHL’s Eastern and Western Conferences and the AHL’s Eastern and Western Conferences will be given the award.
The PHPA is the union for minor league professional players playing in the American Hockey League and the ECHL.
The description of the award is as follows:
“The PHPA Game Saving Goalie Award is presented to one goaltender from the American Hockey League and ECHL Eastern and Western Conferences who is known to consistently make the big save at the biggest moment of the game. He cans teal a win for his team, frustrate opponents, and is regarded as the hardest goaltender to play against.”
There’s already a number of awards that Wolf has won for his incredible 2022-23 campaign. He led the AHL with 42 wins and in goals against average (2.09), save percentage (0.932), and shutouts (7). He was named the winner of the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL’s most valuable player and the winner of the Aldege Bastien Award for the AHL’s most outstanding goaltender as well.
Wolf had this to say about being a recipient for this award, via the media release:
“I’m very honored to be recognized by my peers for this award. There’s so many incredible goaltenders in the Western Conference and to be recognized by the players you play against day in and day out is super special.”
Wolf will be vying for a spot on the Flames’ NHL roster this upcoming season. With the kind of performance he had in the AHL, there are lots of people that believe he’s ready to be moved up for a trial run at the highest level. This off-season is a big one for the goaltender, and he’s going to try and take this momentum and run with it into training camp.
