The Calgary Flames have announced their season-opening roster.
The Flames will begin the season, for cap purposes, with 23 players on their roster: two goaltenders, eight defensemen and 13 forwards, as well as one player on the injury reserve.
Here are the opening 23 active players:
Goaltenders Jacob Markstrom (#25) and Dan Vladar (#80).
Defensemen Rasmus Andersson (#4), Juuso Valimaki (#6), Chris Tanev (#8), Nikita Zadorov (#16), Michael Stone (#26), Erik Gudbranson (#44), Noah Hanifin (#55) and Oliver Kylington (#58).
Forwards Mikael Backlund (#11), Johnny Gaudreau (#13), Milan Lucic (#17), Tyler Pitlick (#18), Matthew Tkachuk (#19), Blake Coleman (#20), Trevor Lewis (#22), Sean Monahan (#23), Brett Ritchie (#24), Elias Lindholm (#28), Dillon Dube (#29), Glenn Gawdin (#42) and Andrew Mangiapane (#88).
On the season-opening injured reserve are Brad Richardson (#15), Connor Zary (#47) and Johannes Kinnvall (#95). Because they weren’t on an NHL roster last season Zary and Kinnvall do not count against the salary cap while on the injured list and both will be bound for the AHL’s Stockton Heat when they are medically cleared. Because he was on an NHL roster all of last season, Richardson’s entire cap hit counts against the salary cap.
Including one buyout (Troy Brouwer), the Flames have $81.2 million in cap commitments and $300,000 in space available under the daily salary cap.
