The Calgary Flames have made some roster moves! On Sunday afternoon, the club announced that they’ve assigned five players to the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat: goaltender Adam Werner, defenseman Connor Mackey, and forwards Walker Duehr, Byron Froese and Justin Kirkland.
Prior to these moves, the Flames had 31 players on their camp roster. Now they have 26 players in camp, including injured players Connor Zary, Johannes Kinnvall and Tyler Pitlick, and suspended forward Blake Coleman. In effect, these are the final roster moves before Monday’s roster deadline.
Of the five players cut, Duehr had the best camp. He played in most of the exhibition games, and catapulted himself from a fringe AHL player into a potential NHL option within a few short weeks. (That’s the value of having a good summer of development and preparation, folks.)
Werner, Mackey and Duehr were waiver exempt, while Kirkland and Froese cleared waivers on Sunday after being placed on the waiver wire on Saturday.
The NHL’s roster deadline is 3 p.m. MT on Monday.
