We’re into the final week of pre-season action for the Calgary Flames, who’ll have three games this coming week! The Flames’ hectic week kicks off with a home date with the Seattle Kraken, who are thankfully leaving their mascot at home but are bringing some of their more interesting players to town.
Puck drop is after 7 p.m. MT on the Flames website and Sportsnet 960 The Fan!

Projected lineups

Both clubs are bringing lineups fairly heavy on NHL-caliber talent.
Projected Flames lines (via Pat Steinberg):
Andrew Mangiapane – Nazem Kadri – Dillon Dube
Kevin Rooney – Mikael Backlund – Blake Coleman
Milan Lucic – Cody Eakin – Trevor Lewis
Sonny Milano – Adam Ruzicka – Brett Ritchie
Noah Hanifin – Chris Tanev
Nikita Zadorov – MacKenzie Weegar
Connor Mackey – Michael Stone
Jacob Markstrom starts for the Flames, backed up by Dan Vladar.
It’s the first pre-season action for Mangiapane and Tanev. Dube gets a try-out on the second line, which gives Rooney a try-out on the third line!
Projected Kraken lines (via Mike Benton):
Schwartz – Beniers – Burakovsky
McCann – Wright – Eberle
Donato – Wennberg – Bjorkstrand
Hayden – Geekie – Kuhlman
Dunn – Oleksiak
Soucy – Borgen
Evans – Fleury
Martin Jones is slated to start for the Kraken, with the backup not yet disclosed.
Matty Beniers and Shane Wright are listed for tonight. Both are young and very fun to watch, but also fairly raw.

Unavailable Flames

A few Flames are unavailable for tonight:
  • Oliver Kylington is on personal leave from the team
  • Emilio Pettersen, Martin Pospisil and Dennis Gilbert are day-to-day with injuries

What to watch

We’re at the point of pre-season where teams don’t have a lot of filler bodies in camp and so we’re getting down to business. The Flames have some decisions to make on their forward and defensive fringes, so keep an eye on the Cody Eakin and Adam Ruzicka lines, as well as the Connor Mackey/Michael Stone defensive pairing. The window for bubble players to stake a claim on roster spots is rapidly closing.
