With Brad Richardson back skating with the Calgary Flames, the club was going to have to make a roster move to activate the veteran from the injury reserve. They made that move: placing forward Glenn Gawdin on waivers, per multiple reports.
Gawdin, 24, played as the Flames’ fourth line centre in each of their first two games this season. He had an even plus/minus, but won just three of 11 face-offs over the two games. He was originally signed by the Flames in 2017 during his breakout offensive season with the Western Hockey League’s Swift Current Broncos; he narrowly missed out on a scoring title but was named the league’s playoff MVP. He’s since been a mainstay for the Flames’ AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat.
He’s on a one year, two-way contract paying him $750,000 at the NHL level. Unless he plays 71 NHL games this season, he’ll become a Group 6 unrestricted free agent when his contract expires on July 13.
Should Gawdin clear waivers tomorrow, he’ll be assigned to the Heat.
