Flames prospect update: The Heat enjoy their bye week

1 year agoThe bad news is that the Stockton Heat didn’t capture first overall in the American Hockey League. The good news is they still had a spectacular season, and they’ll enjoy a bye week to practice and recuperate while the other six Pacific Division playoff teams battle it out for seeding in the next round.
As we await for Stockton to get going again, let’s see how everyone’s weeks (and seasons) went.
This and that
- The playing seasons are over for F Mitchell Mattson (Michigan State), F Josh Nodler (also Michigan State), F Demetrios Koumontzis (Arizona State), D Jake Boltmann (Notre Dame), F Matt Coronato (Harvard), F William Stromgren (Rögle) and F Lucas Feuk (Väsby).
- Connor Mackey, Adam Ruzicka and Adam Werner are with the Flames as extra depth players for the playoffs.
- By virtue of winning their division, Stockton gets a week off. They’ll face the lowest-seeded surviving Pacific Division team next week.

The 67’s got knocked out of the OHL playoffs, but Beck has been summoned to Stockton, joining the Flames’ affiliate on an amateur try-out deal. He might not play, but it’ll be good experience for him to practice with a very good AHL team.

He’ll really need to light it up next season, his last season on the Flames’ reserve list, in order to stoke any interest from the club in offering him an NHL contract.

Francis had a productive final week of the season, playing on the right side of Saint John’s second line. He just missed the cut for hitting a 30 point NHLe season – when you consider he missed a chunk of the QMJHL season and took awhile to get adjusted after playing in the AHL, he definitely had a good season.

Kuznetsov served as the defensive yin to Jeremie Poirier’s offensive-minded yang for Saint John for much of the season, but Kuznetsov had himself a few good offensive weeks, too. The Sea Dogs will meet Rimouski in the opening round.
