This past week was pretty typical for how things have been going for Calgary Flames prospects for the past 11 months. Some players were injured. Some players didn’t score all that much. A few of them had their schedules shuffled due to the ongoing worldwide pandemic we’re all experiencing. But hockey persists and the playoffs are approaching for a bunch of European leagues, too.
Let’s check in on all the Flames’ prospects.

In case you missed it:

Jake Boltmann- D, Lincoln Stars, USHL / University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA

Boltmann still has yet to register a goal or assist at any level of hockey this season. He was dropped to Notre Dame’s third defensive pairing this week and was somehow only an even player in an 8-1 win.

Lucas Feuk- LW, AIK, Allsvenskan/J20 Nationell / Kalix HC, HockeyEttan

Feuk may have dropped down a level, but he’s playing well! He had two multi-point games to double his season-to-date production in HockeyEttan, and he’s second on his team in points per game. The guy ahead of him is 31 years old.

Ryan Francis- C, Cape Breton Eagles/Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date15615211015832.60
Change from last weekn/a
New Brunswick remains a national COVID-19 hot-spot and the next scheduled Sea Dogs game is Mar. 3, though that may be revised if the situation improves.

Johannes Kinnvall- D, HV71, SHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date2971522812537.08
Change from last weekn/a
Kinnvall is injured. HV71 is just a smidge about the SHL playoff cutline, so it seems probable that he’ll be thrown into some intense hockey when he returns.

Demetrios Koumontzis- LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1636967615.36
Change from last weekn/a
The Sun Devils split a pair of exhibition games with the U.S. National Development Program’s U-18 Team. Koumontzis had a goal in the second game, though it doesn’t count in his overall stat line.

Yan Kuznetsov- D, University of Connecticut Huskies, NCAA / Team Russia, WJC

Kuznetsov played one game but didn’t hit the scoresheet.

Mitchell Mattson- C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date182244446.07

The Spartans were idle after a planned pair of games against Michigan were postponed due to COVID protocols.

Ilya Nikolayev- C, Buran Voronezh, VHL / Loko Yaroslavl, MHL

Nikolayev had a couple power play points this week, a goal and an assist. With Buran’s season winding down and the club well out of playoff contention, he was re-assigned back to the MHL in order to get some games in.

Josh Nodler- C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA

Pelletier played a game with zero points this week amidst a bunch of schedule re-shuffles involving the QMJHL’s bubble set-ups. Val-d’Or will be back in action with more games next week.

Jeremie Poirier- D, Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

Filip Sveningsson- LW, MODO Hockey, Allsvenskan

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

Sveningsson had a very Sveningsson week: he played a couple games, played a good amount for MODO, but failed to register any points. He feels like a long-shot to be signed by the Flames this off-season, particularly given the Flames’ aggressiveness in recruiting European and college free agents and their existing big crop of first and second-year pros that need playing time.

Daniil Chechelev- G, Russkie Vityazi Chekhov, MHL / HC Ryazan, VHL / HC Vityaz Podolsk, KHL

With Ryazan carrying three goalies, Chechelev went down to play a couple MHL games with Chekhov. He had a regulation loss and overtime win. Ryazan is in a playoff spot in the VHL, but the priority may be to get Chechelev some damn games rather than have him be one of three goalies they’re carrying.
