The 2022-23 season has ended for the Calgary Flames. But their American Hockey League affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, are playoff-bound and three NHL roster players have been dispatched to the AHL by the big club to bolster them for their playoff run.
Headed to the AHL, per the club, are goaltender Dustin Wolf and forwards Jakob Pelletier and Walker Duehr.
Wolf, 21, is an undefeated NHL goaltender who won his first (and only) NHL start on Wednesday night. He currently leads the AHL in effectively every goaltending category and should be considered a strong contender for the AHL’s Most Valuable Player award.
Pelletier, 22, had seven points in 24 NHL games and 36 points in 33 AHL games this season. He’s been up with the NHL club since just before the All-Star Break, but he was scratched for much of the past few weeks as the club attempted a playoff push.
Duehr, 25, had 11 points in 27 NHL games and 26 points in 41 AHL games this season. He’s been up with the NHL club since a little bit after Pelletier was recalled, but he found a really nice niche on the fourth line as an energy forward who could chip in with timely goals.
Wolf, Pelletier and Duehr are all strong AHL players and should give the Wranglers a boost to the upper end of their roster. The Wranglers conclude their regular season on Friday and Saturday with games against the Abbotsford Canucks.
