Calgary Flames re-assign Walker Duehr and Jakob Pelletier to the AHL (for playoff eligibility purposes)

By Ryan Pike
8 months agoIn advance of Friday’s trade deadline, the Calgary Flames made a pair of player assignments whose purposes are almost entirely administrative. The club re-assigned forwards Walker Duehr and Jakob Pelletier to the American Hockey League’s Calgary Wranglers prior to the 1 p.m. MT trade deadline.
These assignments keep Duehr and Pelletier eligible to compete in the AHL’s Calder Cup playoffs in the (likely) event that the Flames miss the playoffs but the Wranglers qualify. It’s very likely that following the deadline on Friday, we’ll see Duehr and Pelletier recalled back from the AHL, using up two of the club’s four post-deadline recalls.
Duehr has been a fixture on the fourth line for the last month or so. He has four points in 14 NHL games and 26 points in 41 AHL games this season. He was originally a free agent signing out of college.
Pelletier has been a fixture on the second line for the last month or so. He has seven points in 16 NHL games and 36 points in 33 AHL games this season. He was the club’s first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
