The Flames have announced today that they are renewing their ECHL affiliation with the Kansas City Mavericks, extending their partnership with the club for a third season.
Kansas City has been the Flames’ AHL affiliate since 2017-18 after the Islanders switched affiliations. In their time as the Flames’ ECHL affiliate, they have mostly been used to develop goaltenders, with prospects Nick Schneider, Mason McDonald, and Tyler Parsons all having spent time with the club.
The deal is only for one year, and will have to be renewed next season. With three seasons of partnership, that moves the Flames-Mavericks partnership into a tie for third with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles of the IHL and the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL for longest tenured Flames AA affiliate, behind the Johnstown Chiefs (1998-2003) and the Las Vegas Wranglers (2003-2009).
Although the Stockton Heat are named as the Flames’ AHL affiliate in the press release, there has been no official announcement regarding the future of their affiliation with the Flames beyond the 2019-20 season, the last year in their current lease with the Stockton Arena. You can read about their situation here.
