The game was tied in the third period, but the Flames were fortunate to be in it at that point. They were soundly outplayed at ES all night and it was only some nice Kiprusoff saves and the Wings firing shots wide that had Calgary in the game. Ironically, it was the DET PP that scored the majority of the goals for the bad guys, but it could have easily been the other way too.
There were bright and dark spots in the loss. The kid line wasn’t too bad against the Red Wings bottom-enders and Brodie had himself a very nice night, including a great feed to set up Jokinen’s PP marker. On the other hand, Calgary’s top-6 was mostly either mediocre (Iggy line) or terrible…the Jokinen trio got their heads handed to them to the tune of a cumulative -30 rating in scoring chances! Add in Glencross’ late third period penalty that led to the Wings taking the lead for good and you can say he had one of the worst games of his Flames career.
