Flames outchanced by almost a 2-1 margin tonight despite winning the game. Things were relatively close at ES as both clubs were fairly sloppy at 5on5, so the real difference was special teams: the Blues managed 6 chances to the Flames 1. It didn’t make a difference to the final outcome, but that’s only because Kipper stood on his head the Blues missed a handful of 10 bell chances by a few inches.
Att he other end, Roman Horak stayed hot and generated another couple of points. He was pretty good despite a negative chance differential. The big guns, on the other hand were mostly non-existant. The PP was totally punchless with them on the ice and Iginla managed just two ES chances in 17:00 minutes of ice.
Calgary is winning some games right now on the back of good goaltending, nice bounces and the singular efforts of a rookie. It’s nice to see but it’s not a formula for success long-term. They need to start generating more chances in general and the PP has to become far more potent in particular.
