Flames select Cade Littler at 219th overall

The Calgary Flames have made their third and final selection of the 2022 NHL Draft. In the seventh round, at 219th overall, they’ve selected big centre Cade Littler.
One of the youngest players in the draft class as a July 2004 birthday. He’s listed at 6’3″ and 201 pounds, and he’s a right shot centre. He’s the first Flames draft pick to be born after the club’s 2004 Stanley Cup Final run.
A product of East Wenatchee, Washington, he played his 2021-22 season with the BCHL’s Wenatchee Wild. He had 20 goals and 45 points for the Wild and was named to the league’s All-Rookie Team. He was second on his team in scoring and tied for 42nd league-wide.
He’s committed to the University of Minnesota-Mankato for 2023-24, and he’ll return to the BCHL for next season.
FC Hockey had him ranked at 201st overall. In their draft guide, they praised his defensive game but were a bit bearish on his offensive potential.
With his determination, physical tools, and attention to detail it’s very easy to project him eventually becoming a reliable, effective defensive center at the NHL level.
He’s a longer-term project and still pretty raw, but he’ll have time in college to mature and develop his game.
