Flames sign Dillon Dube to entry level contract

With Tyler Parsons’ contract wrapped up it was only a matter of time until Dillon Dube, the Calgary Flames’ second round, 56th overall pick in the 2016 NHL draft was signed. With Dube, the Flames have added a centre, though a little undersized currently, to the coffer of talent they’ve accumulated over the last few drafts.

Dube hasn’t exactly had the easiest road in his draft+one season, but he’s still managed to get back into the swing of things down the stretch to close out Kelowna’s season and head into the WHL playoffs. There’s reasonable optimism in his body of work so far at the junior level that when the time comes for Dube, he should be able to transition in the AHL or even NHL levels.

With 20 goals and 35 assists through 40GP this year, it’s entirely possible to see Dube play with Stockton via an amateur tryout if the Rockets bow out early in the WHL playoffs. Morgan Klimchuk also saw a taste of AHL hockey early in a similar vein so it’s something to keep an eye on.

Keep in mind with Dube turning 19 this summer, his contract will slide for a year. The same rule applies for Phillips if he’s signed anytime soon.
