The Flames leave town for Vancouver after posting wins in each of the two dates on their recent homestand. The team followed up a wild 6-4 victory over Edmonton with a narrow 3-2 win over Winnipeg on Tuesday night, leaving them poised to win three in a row for the first time since last March.
Overall, Calgary has now earned the win in four of its past six contests, but has continued to struggle to generate steady offense. The Flames have averaged three goals per game during their current 4-2-0 run, but have only topped that number twice in their past nine contests. That has produced steady returns for those taking the UNDER at betting sites, which has gone 3-1-0 in their past four overall, and 3-1-1 in their past five road dates.
Despite their recent strong play, the Flames still sit outside the playoff picture in the North Division, lagging two points behind fourth-place Winnipeg heading into Thursday’s action. Calgary also remains well off the pace on the Stanley Cup odds as a distant +3300 wager.
The Canucks enter Thursday’s series opener as +130 home underdogs, and looked to have overcome a shaky start while closing out January with four straight wins. However, things quickly went from bad to worse on their recent six-game road trip, which they completed with five straight losses.
The Canucks have struggled at both ends of the ice during their current slide. After giving up 11 total goals in consecutive losses in Montreal, the team was blown out in a three-game series against the surging Toronto Maple Leafs, getting outscored by a wide 15-5 margin.
Vancouver has enjoyed better luck at home, thanks to a decisive three-game sweep of the last-place Ottawa Senators, and has averaged 4.50 goals per game in six home games to date. However, goals have been scarce in recent meetings with Calgary, with Canucks shooters tallying just 10 total goals during their current 1-5-0 run, including just three total goals in their past two clashes at Rogers Arena.
