Flames weekly prospect update: Just one more

• It was a call up kerfuffle this week. First, Jon Gillies came up on an emergency basis, then he was back down for David Rittich, who then went back down (with Rasmus Andersson) for Jon Gillies, again.

• Exciting defenceman Adam Fox’s season unfortunately ended in the NCAA semi finals. See how his season went here.
• Matthew Phillips was ATO’d to Stockton, but has yet to make his debut. I’m excited for it, regardless.
• Here’s Ryan’s little dealie on Morgan Klimchuk and when we can expect him to make a debut for the Flames.

Forwards

• Janko maintained his point-per-game average again this week, but is still somehow not the best AHL prospect for the Flames this week. That distinction would, again, go to Hunter Shinkaruk, who scored five goals. The 2013 draft pick had seen his shooting percentage dip, and now it’s back to normal levels again. High fives all around.
• Ryan Lomberg, technically a future Flame, has had a bit of a hot streak since he signed his ELC. This week saw him score a goal and an assist.
• Morgan Klimchuk and Garnet Hathaway, on the other hand, struggled, only recording one point between them.
• Mitchell Mattson’s season is over, and he will head to North Dakota for NCAA hockey next year.

Defenders

• Andersson made his return to the Heat not a second too soon, as Oliver Kylington is down with what appears to be a lower body injury after a knee-on-knee collision with Zach Stortini.
• Since the ECHL season is over, I’ll remind you that Ryan Culkin nearly had three times the points Keegan Kanzig did in just less than half of games played.
• Brett Kulak made his return to the ice, picking up a point.
• Adam Ollas Mattsson scored his first North American professional goal on a nifty 4v4 play, which unfortunately went un-GIF’d.

Goalies

• In AHL-related news, Jon Gillies won both of his starts in Stockton this week (including one on basically 24 hours notice) and David Rittich stopped 47 of 49 shots in the other. Good work all around.

Prospect playoff update

• Dube and the Rockets are up 2-0 in their series against Portland, while Tuulola is losing his series 2-0 to the Thunderbirds. Parsons is currently tied 1-1 with the Erie Otters.
• Dube is currently second on his team in playoff points, one point out of a tie for first.
• Ditto for Eetu Tuulola and goals. Heard he likes scoring ’em.
• Parsons is fourth among starting goalies for playoff SV%. All good stuff from the 2016 draft class.
