It was a fairly lean week as far as Calgary Flames prospects in game action went. Of the 19 prospects we’ve been following, only nine got any games in at all. The rest were off, either due to their leagues being paused, trips to the World Juniors, or scheduling quirks.
Here’s a snapshot of how everybody’s doing right now.

In case you missed it:

  • Last week’s update
  • Jakob Pelletier and Connor Zary are currently at Canada’s World Junior camp and just exiting quarantine. Yan Kuznetsov is at Russia’s camp. Dustin Wolf is at the United States’ camp. Because of testing requirements, we should know who made World Junior rosters by Friday or so.

Boltmann is still seeking his first post-draft points. Through six games he’s rocking goose-eggs across the board, plus Lincoln has one win so far.

Nikolayev had a quiet offensive week, but played a good amount in two of his three outings. He was used sparingly on Tuesday against Ryazan due to a 10-minute misconduct penalty he took.

As noted, MSU lost both of this week’s games. But Nodler had a productive week, fore-checking well, making smart plays, and getting an assist in each game.

Change from last weekn/a
SM-Liiga is paused until late December. Of all the players on European loan, Valimaki is the most likely to play on the Flames this year – he’s basically a lock – and so expect his loan to end very soon.

Chechelev only played two periods this week, but for a good reason. He was called up to the KHL’s Vityaz Podolsk on Monday:
Goalkeeper Daniil Chechelev and defender Vyacheslav Saraev were called to Vityaz and together with the Podolsk team went to the away streak. Petr Kochetkov was sent to HC Ryazan. The goalkeeper, who has already played for the White-Blues in the 2018/2019 season, will return to the ice with the Citizens in the first game of the home series.
He dressed as Vityaz’s backup on Tuesday, the first time he’s done that in the KHL. Vityaz is also carrying goaltenders Ilya Ezhov and Anton Todykov. Petr Kochetkov is an Hurricanes (not Oilers) prospect, but hasn’t played much this season and swapping him to Ryazan for Chechelev is seemingly designed to get him some game action.

Artyom Zagidulin- G, Metallurg Magnitigorsk, KHL

Zagidulin dressed as backup on Monday, the first time he’s done that since late October. He hasn’t seen any game action since Oct. 30. (I would wager his loan will end quite soon as well with Flames camp getting going after the holidays.)
