We’re into the meat of just about every league’s season, and it’ll be a couple of weeks before the cream of the prospect crop gets stolen away to various national team camps as they attempt to make various World Junior rosters.
In the meantime, let’s check in on all of the prospects.

This and that:

  • Johannes Kinnvall and Tyler Persons are on the Flames’ season-opening injury reserve after suffering injuries.
  • Daniil Chechelev has been assigned to the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks and dressed as a backup on Tuesday, but hasn’t played in a game yet.

Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

Beck missed this past week due to injury.

Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1115654314.89
Change from last week2000000-3.31
Boltmann went quiet offensively this week, though he’s been on quite the tear lately so that was seemingly inevitable. He’s part of a seven defender rotation for Notre Dame and usually plays the equivalent of second or third pairing minutes.

Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1224654312.38
Change from last week2000000-2.48
Ciona remained quiet on the scoresheet this week. He’s bouncing around Seattle’s second and third forward lines.

Matthew Coronato – RW, Harvard University Crimson, NCAA/HE

Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #1-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date735867626.24
Change from last week2011111-5.90
Coronato had an assist in a pair of pretty hotly-contested Harvard games. He continues to generate a ton of shots, even if they haven’t gone in for him over the past couple of weeks. He plays the right side of Harvard’s first line.

Walker Duehr – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Change from last weekn/a
QMJHL up to date634727227.17
Change from last week2112020-1.94
Francis is playing on Saint John’s second line. He hasn’t set the world on fire, but he’s been pretty good offensively as he finds his rhythm. He had a power play goal and an empty net assist.

Glenn Gawdin – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

St. Louis’ fourth round pick (116th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft; free agent signing; #10-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date91101185548.71
Change from last week3033111-4.43
Most of Gawdin’s production this week was on the power play, but he was a difference-maker for Stockton. He’s centering what’s nominally Stockton’s second line.

Emil Heineman – LW, Leksands IF, SHL/CHL

Florida’s second round pick (43rd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; acquired via trade; #14-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

Up to date1667131010718.92
Change from last week3213232+1.01
Huckins returned from a brief injury and had a pretty consistent week, with two goals and three points. He’s usually a top six winger for the Titan, but occasionally plays centre, too.

Cole Jordan – D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL

Calgary’s fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date20000000.00

Jordan remains out with what the WHL weekly report is calling an illness. He hasn’t played since early October.

Rory Kerins – C, Soo Greyhounds, OHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #18-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date169152414171039.73
Change from last week2011111-3.78
Kerins had a quiet week, especially by his standards, with just one assist. He’s Soo’s first line centre.

Justin Kirkland – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Nashville’s third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1132524118.11
Change from last week3011010-1.82
Kirkland chipped in an assist this week. He’s playing with Connor Zary and Byron Froese right now on the third line, likely to give Zary a couple savvy, reliable veterans to play with as he gets his game rhythm back.

Demetrios Koumontzis – LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA/Ind.

Calgary’s fourth round pick (108th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

A senior for ASU, Koumontzis is a third and fourth line winger. He had an assist this week.

Yan Kuznetsov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s second round pick (50th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #15-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date100000000.00
Change from last week2000000n/a
Kuznetsov was a healthy scratch for Saturday’s game against Henderson. Our pals over at The Win Column broke down the decision-making the Flames need to make in terms of whether to return him to the QMJHL or keep him in Stockton. As of now, he’s rotating with Colton Poolman and Ilya Solovyov on the third pairing.

Connor Mackey – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing; #7-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1104424214.49
Change from last week3022020+4.53
Mackey had a good week, with a pair of primary assists: one on an overtime winner, the other on a shorthanded goal. He’s playing with veteran Andy Welinski on Stockton’s first pairing.

Mitchell Mattson – C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s fifth round pick (126th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date81122226.83
Change from last week2000000-2.27
Mattson is a senior and a fourth line centre. Sometimes he’s a fifth line centre. He was quiet this week, as he usually is.

Ilya Nikolaev – C, Tri-City Storm, USHL

Calgary’s third round pick (88th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date11471157422.96
Change from last week2224232+5.10
Arguably the biggest breakout player in the Flames system this season, Nikolaev was sort of just a guy in Europe over the past two seasons but he’s become a go-to guy for one of the USHL’s top teams. He had a pair of two point games for the Storm and he’s now up to a point per game in one of the top junior leagues in North America.

Josh Nodler – C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA/Big10

Calgary’s fifth round pick (150th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1245948420.48
Change from last week2101010-1.36
MSU’s first line centre, Nodler scored a power play goal that sparked a big comeback win for the Spartans.

Jakob Pelletier – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s first round pick (26th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft; #3-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date115813810547.10
Change from last week3314231+2.27
A 20-year-old pro rookie, Pelletier is third in rookie scoring in the AHL and one of the most consistent offensive players in his league. And he’s 20 and playing on Stockton’s first line.

Emilio Pettersen – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (167th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft; #11-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1003330011.96
Change from last week2011100+2.00
So, Pettersen played two games on Stockton’s fourth line (with an assist) and was a healthy scratch in the other game in favour of getting Dmitry Zavgorodniy some reps.

Matthew Phillips – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; #5-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date11461069636.23
Change from last week3123232+1.36
Playing the right side of Stockton’s top line, Phillips is a picture of consistency.

Luke Philp – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Free agent signing
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1141535318.11
Change from last week3101010-1.82

Change from last week2000000n/a
Poolman is rotating with Ilya Solovyov and Yan Kuznetsov on Stockton’s third pairing.

Martin Pospisil – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s fourth round pick (105th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft; #16-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date722423215.94
Change from last week
Pospisil missed Stockton’s games this week due to injury.

Adam Ruzicka – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s fourth round pick (109th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft; #6-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date119615912954.34
Change from last week3224222-0.46
Centering Stockton’s first line, Ruzicka continues chugging along. He had two even strength goals and two power play assists, and he’s one of the AHL’s most productive offensive players.

Ilya Solovyov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s seventh round pick (205th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #20-ranked prospect
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe

Change from last week
Rögle was off this week.

Eetu Tuulola – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s sixth round pick (156th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date621333319.93
Change from last week3101111-6.64
Tuulola has settled into a spot with Glenn Gawdin and Luke Philp and he’s been producing. He added a goal this week. It’s unclear where he fits when Walker Duehr comes back, though.

Cameron Whynot – D, Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL

Calgary’s third round pick (89th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1526835212.42
Change from last week2011010-0.12
Whynot missed a game with an illness this week, but otherwise continued on as he has been – as a power play producer for the Mooseheads.

Connor Zary – C, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s first round pick (24th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date31010100.00
Change from last week3101010n/a
Zary’s plus/minus is a bit yikes, but he’s working out the rust on a line with Byron Froese and Justin Kirkland. He had a goal this week.

Dmitry Zavgorodniy – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL

Calgary’s seventh round pick (198th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft
GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date60000000.00

Zavgorodniy played a game this week and he’s a fourth line depth guy for Stockton right now.

GPTOISV%
Up to date9540.950
Change from last week2120-.004
Sergeev allowed three goals this week, which caused his save percentage to plummet.

Adam Werner – G, Stockton Heat, AHL

GPTOISV%
Up to date4244.922

Wolf’s percentages are normalizing a bit, but he’s still among the top goalies in the AHL.
