FlamesNation Prospect Update: Stockton starts season
The AHL has arrived, meaning that all but three of the Flames’ prospects are back in the swing of things. Two others (Tyler Parsons, Mason McDonald) begin their season next week, and the final holdout (Adam Fox) will begin his in two weeks. Buckle up folks.
In case you missed it
- Here’s last week’s update.
- FN added boots on the ground in Stockton, with the acquisition of Stockton’s Finest.
- Here’s his recap from Stockton’s first game.
- And Stockton’s second game.
Rasmus Andersson – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 57.81 |
It was a top-heavy weekend in Stockton, with many of the first line and first pairing players running the show. Andersson led all defencemen in scoring for the Heat, picking up three assists over the course of the two games.
Austin Carroll – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Carroll was healthy scratched for both of Stockton’s games this weekend.
Dillon Dube – C/LW, Kelowna Rockets, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 4 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 4 | 8 | 4 | 53.51 |
Change from last week | 3 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 4 | 8 | 4 | +53.51 |
Dube had himself one hell of a week, scoring nine points in three games, nearly all of them being primary. He contributed on all four Kelowna goals in their win against Prince George. Kid’s pretty good.
Zach Fischer – RW, Medicine Hat Tigets, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 7.93 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | +7.93 |
Fischer scored a goal this weekend and fought a dude. He comes as advertised.
Spencer Foo – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Foo made his professional debut with Stockton, but unfortunately didn’t do much. He played with Hunter Shinkaruk and Ryan Lomberg.
Adam Fox – D, Harvard Crimson, ECAC
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | ||||||||
Change from last week |
Fox doesn’t play until Oct. 21, an exhibition against the USNDT. His real regular season doesn’t begin until Oct. 29.
Josh Healey – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Healey appeared in both games, didn’t do that much.
Mark Jankowski – C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 96.35 |
Someone is not happy about being sent down. Jankowski scored goals at all strengths this weekend, including a powerplay two-on-one (if you scroll down to Andrew Mangiapane, you’ll see it). When will he come up? Whenever the Flames decide to do something about that fourth line.
D’Artagnan Joly – RW, Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Still injured. No timetable.
Pavel Karnaukhov – LW/C, CSKA Moscow, KHL/Zvezda, VHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
KHL current | 4 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
VHL current | 7 | 5 | 6 | 11 | 7 | 11 | 7 | 48.97 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -8.16 |
Karnuakhov got bumped up to the KHL, maybe for good this time. He’s been undeniably dominant in the VHL.
Morgan Klimchuk – LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 19.27 |
One of the rare Heat players not on the first line to record a point, but only because he gets special teams time.
Oliver Kylington – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Kylington suffered a minor injury in his first game, but came back for game two. Nothing to record on the scoresheet.
Linus Lindstrom – C/LW, Skelleftea AIK, SHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 7 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 6.79 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 6.79 |
Lindstrom finally appeared on the scoresheet for Skelleftea, adding a goal in the late stages of a blowout win.
Ryan Lomberg – LW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Lomberg got starts at center this weekend, which is quite unusual, but just the way the cookie crumbles. Nothing much happened on his line.
Andrew Mangiapane – LW/C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 2 | 2 | 4 | 2 | 4 | 2 | 77.08 |
Mangiapane also had himself a great weekend, scoring an even two goals and two assists in two games. It’s going to be interesting to see where he is by the end of November. Enjoy this pretty passing play between him and Jankowski, if you don’t mind some yelling
Mitchell Mattson – C/LW, Sioux Falls Stampede, USHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Mattson, back in the USHL for another year, appeared in two games this week. He didn’t do much.
Adam Ollas Mattson – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Ollas Mattson did not play this weekend
Matthew Phillips – C/RW, Victoria Royals, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 6 | 3 | 11 | 14 | 3 | 9 | 3 | 55.49 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 4 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 2 | -3.96 |
Phillips remains dominant in the Dub, maintaining a healthy 2.33 PPG. Victoria still has not lost a game yet, and Phillips has contributed in someway to 40% of their goals.
Emile Poirier – LW/RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Poirier recorded two shots on goal this past week.
Brett Pollock – LW/C, Stockton Heat, AHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Pollock is starting the season with the Heat instead of in the ECHL, but has yet to appear in a game.
Daniel Pribyl – RW/C, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Injured his ACL. Unknown when he comes back.
Rushan Rafikov – D, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 17 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 3.57 |
Change from last week | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -0.22 |
Rafikov played in one game of hockey.
Adam Ruzicka – C/LW, Sarnia Sting, OHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 7 | 7 | 5 | 12 | 6 | 10 | 4 | 41 |
Change from last week | 3 | 5 | 2 | 7 | 4 | 5 | 3 | 10.25 |
It is still very early in the season, but Ruzicka is looking to be quite the steal. He’s first in OHL scoring by one point, first in goals, and also tied for first in primary points. He added five goals this weekend, one of them being this OT snipe:
Hunter Shinkaruk – F, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Shinkaruk didn’t do much of anything this week, playing an energy line type role with Lomberg and Foo.
Hunter Smith – RW, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Change from last week | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Smith, like Carroll, did not appear in any games for the Heat. They’re going without the muscle this year, apparently.
Filip Sveningsson – LW, HV71, Superelit/SHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
SHL current | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Change from last week | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Superelit current | 11 | 5 | 5 | 10 | 6 | 8 | 4 | 14.91 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | -1.49 |
Sveningsson has become a bit of a favourite for those who follow the Swedish U20 league, thanks to his blistering speed and wicked shot, on display here…
… and here…
He’s a seventh rounder and we should really temper all expectations, but early returns have suggested that he’s a pretty good bet.
Eetu Tuulola – RW, HPK, SM-Liiga
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 8 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 8.82 |
Change from last week | 3 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 8.82 |
Tuulola had a two-goal outburst for HPK, his first two of the season. Hopefully this opens the floodgates for him, as he hasn’t had a hot start to his Liiga season.
Juuso Valimaki – D, Tri City Americans, WHL
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 4 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 23.78 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | -47.56 |
This slid across my virtual desk way after last week’s prospect update was published, but here’s Valimaki’s svelte goal last week.
He had one assist this weekend.
Tyler Wotherspoon – D, Stockton Heat
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Current | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 38.54 |
Wotherspoon, paired with Andersson, notched two assists this week. I feel a call-up could be in the cards sooner rather than later depending on what happens with that 3LD spot.
Jon Gillies – G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 2 | 118.97 | 0.912 | 68 |
A tale of two Gillies. He stood on his head for Stockton’s 4-1 win, stopping 41 of 42 shots, but fell apart (as most of the team did) in the wild 6-4 San Jose victory, allowing five goals on 26 shots. Occasionally the AHL, and goaltending in general, is weird like that (for perspective, the Heat also scored four times on 27 shots, so neither goalie could stop a puck), so you should look long-term before getting concerned.
Mason McDonald – G, Kansas City Mavericks, ECHL
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
The Mavericks loaned goalkeeper Ty Rimmer to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, leaving McDonald and Parsons with the Kansas City net to themselves. The Mavericks’ season starts this week, but both goalies saw one game each in the preseason, with McDonald slightly outperforming Parsons. McDonald stopped 29 of 30, while Parsons stopped 29 of 32 in preseason action.
Tyler Parsons – G, Kansas City Mavericks
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Ditto.
David Rittich – G, Stockton Heat
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Current | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Rittich did not see any action this weekend.
Nick Schneider – G, Calgary Hitmen, WHL
GP | TOI | SV% | SA | |
Up to date | 5 | 302 | 0.889 | 144 |
Change from last week | 2 | 118 | +0.005 | 58 |
Schneider saw 58 shots this past week, saving 52 of them. He earned a third star for his performance in a 1-0 loss to the Everett Silvertips.
