The 2021 NHL Draft is just under a month away, taking place July 23 and 24 and held remotely again due to the stupid pandemic. The draft order is set, aside from the final two picks in each round, so here’s a quick rundown of when the Calgary Flames are projected to draft (and a handful of players ranked in that general area).
The Flames were assigned the 13th pick in every round of the draft. But there are only 31 picks in the first round, officially, since Arizona forfeited their first round pick, so every pick (after 11th overall) moves up by one.

Available picks

1st round, 12th overall

Bob McKenzie has RW Fabian Lysell (Lulea HF, SHL) as his 12th-ranked prospect, while FC Hockey and Smaht Scouting have C Chaz Lucius (U.S. National Development Program) at 12th, The Draft Analyst has C Aaty Raty (Karpat, SM-Liiga) and The Hockey News has F Fyodor Svechkov (Lada Togliatti, VHL) at 12th.

2nd round, 44th overall

McKenzie has C Logan Stankoven (Kamloops, WHL) at 44th overall – he could go much earlier than that, though, as Draft Prospects Hockey have him 12th. Also slated at 44th on various rankings: C Ryder Korczak (Moose Jaw, WHL; FC Hockey), D Stanislav Svozil (HC Brno Kometa, Extraliga; The Draft Analyst), D Jake Martin (U.S. National Development Program; Smaht Scouting) and C Connor Roulette (Seattle, WHL; The Hockey News).
(It’s very on brand for the Flames to be projected to take a WHLer by just about every ranking here.)

3rd round, 76th overall

Projected at 76th overall: RW Olivier Nadeau (Shawinigan, QMJHL; McKenzie), LW Matthew Knies (Tri-City, USHL; FC Hockey), D Kirill Kirsanov (SKA St. Petersburg, KHL; Smaht Scouting), C Brett Harrison (Oshawa, OHL; The Draft Analyst) and C Ville Koivunen (Karpat, U20 SM-sarja; The Hockey News).

3rd round, 83rd overall [from Edmonton]* (from the Milan Lucic trade)

Projected at 83rd overall: D William Trudeau (Charlottetown, QMJHL; McKenzie), D Ethan del Mastro (Mississauga, OHL; FC Hockey), D Cameron Whynot (Halifax, QMJHL; Smaht Scouting), D Brent Johnson (Sioux Falls, USHL; The Draft Analyst) and D Isaac Belliveau (Gatineau, QMJHL; The Hockey News).

5th round, 140th overall

6th round, 172nd overall

7th round, 204th overall

Traded picks

The Flames traded their 4th round pick (108th overall) to Los Angeles for D Derek Forbort.
