The Flames dominated while sweeping last week’s two-game home series with the Canucks. Calgary has now won five of its last seven regular season home games dating back to last February.
While the Flames return to action well rested after a five-day break, they have struggled to produce winning results following recent long layoffs. The team stumbled to a 1-3-1 record in the five games immediately following last season’s All-Star Break, with each of those losses coming on home ice. The club has also tallied three straight home wins just once in 20 contests since December 2019.
In addition, the Flames have produced mixed results versus Toronto. Victorious in three of their last four overall meetings, Calgary has limited the Maple Leafs to two or fewer goals in four of their past five tilts. However, the Flames have also struggled to find the back of the net when facing Toronto, averaging just two goals per game over their past nine meetings. And with the total getting set at 6.0 or higher at betting sites in each of the past six clashes between these North Division rivals, the UNDER is currently on a steady 6-1-1 run.
Maintaining that stingy pace could emerge as a big challenge for the Flames this time around. The Maple Leafs arrive in Calgary on the heels of a 4-2 win over Edmonton on Friday night. However, injuries have started to take their toll on the North Division favourites. Both rookie Nick Robertson and veteran Joe Thornton are sidelined indefinitely, and Auston Matthews remains listed as questionable after missing Friday’s contest with an upper-body injury.
