While his teammates were busy firing a franchise record 62 shots on goal at one end of the ice, Calgary Flames goaltender @Jacob Markstrom stopped all 23 shots he faced on Wednesday for his league-leading sixth shutout of the 2021–22 season.
Markstrom, 31, also set a Flames record with his fourth road shutout of the season. He made nine saves in the first period, eight in the second, and six in the third to seal a 6–0 Flames victory.
Markstrom has now doubled his previous single-season career-high in shutouts in just 29 appearances. His previous best mark came during the 2020–21 campaign, when he posted three shutouts in 43 games.
When he signed his six-year deal with the Flames in 2020, Markstrom had just five shutouts in 270 career outings with the Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers. He now has nine shutouts in 72 appearances with the Flames.
In addition to his six shutouts, Markstrom has a 15–9–5 record and a .926 save percentage in 29 games with the Flames this season. Behind Markstrom, exactly two NHL goalies (@Jack Campbell and @Ilya Sorokin) have exactly four shutouts this year.
Markstrom has four seasons left after this one on his $6 million-AAV contract.
