The Calgary Flames will have their sights set on a share of fourth place in the North Division standings when they close out a two-game home series with the rival Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday as -115 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

A fast start was once again the key to success for the Flames in Monday’s win. Calgary opened the scoring with a pair of early goals, and netminder Jacob Markstrom stood tall in the face of the Oilers’ spirited third-period bid to even the contest. Overall, the Flames have now picked up the win in five of their past six when opening the scoring, and sport a sparkling 12-0-0 record this season when leading after two periods.
The Flames’ stingy defense and Markstrom’s return to health have helped power the team’s second three-game win streak of the season. Markstrom has surrendered just five total goals during Calgary’s current 3-0-0 run, with each of those victories coming on home ice. Overall, the Flames have allowed just 2.33 goals per game over their past seven home dates, and have suffered just four losses in regulation on home ice this season, the fewest in the North Division.
Despite that stingy play, the Flames have managed to produce uneven results on the totals when playing at the Saddledome, with the OVER/UNDER going 6-6-1 at betting sites so far this season. Calgary has also struggled to produce steady winning results against its Battle of Alberta rivals, with Monday’s victory marking its second win in five meetings this season, and just its third win in six dates on home ice.
While the Flames continue to respond positively to the team’s recent coaching change, the Oilers look to snap a two-game slide when they hit the ice on Wednesday as -105 underdogs. The Oilers have battled streaky play since seeing a strong 11-2-0 run end in late February. The vaunted Edmonton offense has managed to score more than three goals in just two of nine games since, despite the steady production of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who have both tallied points in each of the team’s past six outings.
The Oilers’ goal-scoring woes have not been helped by a recent rash of injuries that have sidelined defenseman Tyson Barrie and forwards Kyle Turris and Jujhar Khaira. The loss of Barrie, who remains listed as questionable for Wednesday, particularly hurts. The 29-year-old ranks fourth on the team in scoring, and trails only Darnell Nurse in ice time among Edmonton’s rearguard corps.
