Pre-Season FGD: A trip to scenic Abbotsford (8pm MT, Flames.com stream)

Less than 24 hours after suffering a pre-season setback to the hated Edmonton Oilers, the Calgary Flames are headed to the Fraser Valley to play the Vancouver Canucks. The Flames lost 4-0 on Sunday night, and they’re hoping for a better result when they visit Abbotsford.

The puck drops just after 8 p.m. MT and you can catch the action on Sportsnet 960 The Fan or via web video stream on the Flames website.

Adam Werner starts in net, backed up by Daniel Vladar. Both played against Edmonton and looked quite good, albeit with very little defensive or offensive support.

After a fairly “meh” performance against Edmonton last evening, 11 players are playing back-to-back in an effort to show better than they did in the Saddledome. Of note: Dillon Dube slides over to centre after playing primarily on the wing against Edmonton. And that second line is carried over from how Sunday’s game began.

Be prepared for a somewhat veteran Canucks squad. We don’t have lines, but we do have the roster courtesy the club:

For the Flames, Andrew Mangiapane is probably the best player they’re dressing for this game. (And let’s be honest: that’s sometimes true when the full NHL roster is dressed.) Mangiapane was superb last season and excellent at the World Championship, and the hope is likely that he can continue to build upon all of that momentum and have a big season for the Flames.

And more generally, none of the Flames’ skaters really stood out against Edmonton. So the big question mark here is who will manage to find a way to stand out and be a positive difference-maker for the road team in Abbotsford.
