Quotable: the Flames lose to the Senators 2-1

By Ryan Pike
2 years agoThe Calgary Flames went into Ottawa really needing two points after splitting a pair of games in Toronto. Instead, they suffered another setback at the hands of the Senators, losing a 2-1 game.
Here are some selected quotes from the post-game media addresses.
Johnny Gaudreau
The Flames generated 68 shot attempts and 36 shots on goal overall. That’s good! But they actually lost the high-danger chance battle 8-6, so the Senators were much better at turning zone time into dangerous chances.
I think we’re just not getting in front of the goalie’s eyes. Odd-man rushes, when we have our chances we’re not putting them at the net. I guess there’s a few things but I think the biggest thing is just getting in front of the goalie’s eyes. We’ve got to find a way to score some greasy goals.
Darryl Sutter
Sutter commented on a question about the team’s defensive effort over the past few games and also discussed their overall playing style – namely, how they need to play to get where they want to go.
I don’t think they’re momentary lapses. Those are not work mistakes, they may be a judgment mistake or a battle mistake. But you know what, this team has trouble scoring goals. That’s not a two game thing. I don’t know where that comes from. This team has to check for chances and check well to have a chance to win. If you want to be a playoff type team, then you gotta play 1-1, win 2-1 games. That’s the way it works.
Elias Lindholm
Lindholm discussed the team’s level of disappointment over clawing back to tie the game, but giving up the late goal to lose in regulation.
It’s pretty sour. It hurts. I think this was a game we needed. At least grab a point. But we didn’t.
