Just as quickly as he was brought here, Rasmus Andersson is back in the AHL, officially reassigned to that league as of this morning.
Andersson was recalled just in case someone managed to get injured during the warmups for last night’s game, as the Flames are a bit short on defenders due to Travis Hamonic being injured against the Blues. Hamonic is eligible to come off the IR for the Flames’ next game on Dec. 28, so no need for Rasmus anymore. The Swedish defender was unlikely to play anyways, given that he was pretty much red-eye’d from Stockton to Calgary before last night’s game.
Andersson will return to the Heat, who play tonight against Tucson. He’s unlikely to play in that game, for the same reasons he didn’t play in last night’s. He’s currently second in defensive scoring for the Heat, two points back from Tyler Wotherspoon, but with four fewer games played.
If you’re wondering why the quick reassigning, it has to do with the roster freeze and the CBA:
Taken all together, Andersson took two flights, skated around a bit, ate pressbox popcorn, and got paid around four grand to do so. Not a bad deal for him.
