The Calgary Wranglers and Colorado Eagles finished up their extended series on Wednesday night. This was the last of four consecutive games against each other that the Wranglers had won two out of three going into this match-up. They went for win number three and were successful in that effort. They kept things close, but the Wranglers got the job done on home ice and beat the Eagles 2-1 with once again, some solid scoring efforts in the third period and a great goaltender between the pipes to hold things down.

Game at a glance

Dustin Wolf returned in net for the Wranglers in this game after Oscar Dansk picked up the win in the previous night. The first period was quite a shot battle that in turn transformed into a goaltending battle through the first 20 minutes. The Wranglers had 14 shots to the Eagles’ 18 in the first period and neither was able to get a point on the scoreboard.
In the second period, shots weren’t quite as high but Colorado still outshot Calgary 15-11. The difference in this one was the Eagles were actually able to score one in this period. Just over the halfway mark at 11:22, Ben Meyers scored the opening goal in this game with a shot that beat Wolf on the power play.
That was the only scoring through 40 minutes of play and these teams went into the second intermission with the Eagles leading the Wranglers 1-0. In the third, there was some bounce back from the Wranglers with an answer back goal 8:31 into the period.
Ben Jones scored his 14th goal of the year off a chip in and Alex Gallant and Jeremie Poirier picked up the assists.
Just over four minutes later, the Wranglers were on a power play of their own and this set up a goal for Cole Schwindt, who ripped a shot to earn the Wranglers the lead. Nick DeSimone and Connor Zary assisted.
They kept things close but those two goals were enough for the Wranglers tonight to come out with a 2-1 win. Shots finished up 40-38 favouring the Eagles and Wolf stopped 39 of 40 opposing shots.
The Wranglers have officially hit the 40 win milestone as a team and they are the first in the league to do so. They finished up this series against the Eagles 3-1-0-0 and are still positioned as the best team in the league. This game was the last time these two teams would face each other in the regular season and will now only play again this year if they meet in the playoffs.
