The Calgary Flames have reportedly added some additional forward depth, signing both Alan Quine and Tyler Graovac – two left-shot centres – to one-year, two-way deals.
Quine, 25, is a prototypical tweener. He was limited to just 25 games between the NHL and AHL last season due to a series of nagging injuries, but before that he had carved himself out a niche as a pretty productive AHLer who really didn’t make a lot of noise at the NHL level (albeit in a secondary role). He wasn’t qualified by the Islanders on Monday and became an unrestricted free agent.
A left-shot forward that can play both center and the wing, Quine has 22 points in 84 NHL games and 138 points in 199 AHL games. He looks to make $700,000 at the NHL level, and $400,000 in the AHL.
Graovac, also 25, was originally drafted by the Wild, but played in the Capitals’ system this past season. He dressed for just five games for the Capitals, and over 62 total NHL games – most of which came during the 2016-17 season with the Wild – has a total of seven goals and nine points at the highest level.
The AHL is a different story for Graovac. He suited up for 53 games for the Hershey Bears this past year, scoring 12 goals and 29 points them along the way: tied for sixth in team scoring. He has 131 total points over 255 AHL games. He looks to make $650,000 at the NHL level, and $350,000 in the AHL.
While both are unlikely to work their ways into the Flames lineup in any seismic way, they’ll be useful depth for a Stockton Heat group that lacks established centers.
