Report: Jaromir Jagr might be loaned to Kladno

6 years agoAccording to a report from the Czech Republic, legendary forward Jaromir Jagr’s time with the Calgary Flames may be coming to an end. Well, sort of.
DenikSport’s Zdenek Janda is reporting that Jagr might be returning to his hometown club (and the team he owns) Rytiri Kladno in the Czech secondary league on a loan from the Flames.
Based on his report, and digging through the CBA, here’s how it would probably work:
Jagr is currently on the injured reserve, so he’d need to be activated and then waived to clear him off the NHL roster. Once he clears waivers, he would be eligible to be loaned to a team outside of the NHL. Typically player contracts only include provisions for being loaned to the American Hockey League, but it’s not unheard of for European players to include clauses for potential loans to European teams.

The exact terms of any loan would need to be worked out between the two parties – and soon, because the Czech secondary league’s deadline for loans is Jan. 31 – and would also be subject to the current transfer agreement with the Czech Republic’s hockey governing body. Janda’s report states that Jagr would join Kladno in time to play next Saturday’s game with Kladno against HC Benatky nad Jizerou.
His NHL contract would continue so he’d remain on Flames reserve list. This is important, because players need to be on the reserve list after the trade deadline to be eligible to play in the postseason.
We’ve reached out to many parties for comment and more information. For now, until more information from more parties becomes available, probably take this report with a grain of salt.
