The Calgary Flames will be looking to open a crucial five-game homestand with a win on Sunday night when they host the Ottawa Senators as -170 favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Calgary returns home after falling short in a 3-2 loss in Edmonton on Saturday, and has now fallen to defeat in seven of 10 contests going into Sunday’s game at Scotiabank Saddledome.

In addition to providing the team with an opportunity to welcome new head coach Darryl Sutter on a winning note as he gets set to take over behind the bench next week, Sunday’s contest also marks the fifth meeting in 11 days between these two clubs. Calgary and Ottawa split their first four meetings, with each of the four games getting settled by a multi-goal margin, capped by the Flames’ 7-3 win at home on Thursday night.
Stunned by the firing of coach Geoff Ward in the wake of Thursday’s victory, the Flames opened Saturday’s contest with a first-period performance of which Sutter would approve, outshooting the Oilers by a 21-10 margin. However, the team failed to maintain that momentum or slow down Connor McDavid, whose three-point outing sealed Edmonton’s win.
The Flames have been held to two or fewer goals in eight of 12 outings, including two of their four recent dates with the Senators. And while the team has now started strong in each of its past two outings, potting five total first-period goals, they have consistently faded as games have progressed, scoring more than once in the final two frames just four times in their past 12 games.
That could represent a challenge against a well-rested Ottawa squad that looks to Sunday night’s contest as +160 underdogs at betting sites. The Senators have been idly awaiting the Flames’ return to Calgary since losing on Thursday night.
Consistency has remained a huge challenge for the last-place Senators, who currently ride a four-game losing streak on the road. The team came out flat in each of its two recent road losses, including a 3-1 defeat in Montreal on Tuesday night. However, they have enjoyed offensive success against Calgary, scoring 4.25 goals per game over their first four meetings, highlighted by a pair of dominating home wins over the Flames.
Overall, the Senators have averaged 3.60 goals per game in their past 10 outings, powering a steady 6-3-1 run for the OVER in totals betting. Ottawa has also regularly come out on top in recent games settled by just a single goal, earning the win in four of its past five, but has been outscored by a wide 15-5 margin in three straight losses at the Saddledome.
