Since 2018, the Calgary Flames’ top line has featured Elias Lindholm and, with him in various roles, they’ve had a good amount of success. With Lindholm’s contract expiring in 2024 and him poised to become an unrestricted free agent, they sure would like to sign him to an extension before his deal expires.
Per Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Lindholm’s agents at Newport Sports met with Flames brass today in Nashville to discuss the player’s future.
Originally acquired in a swap with the Carolina Hurricanes back at the 2018 NHL Draft, Lindholm has been a top-flight forward for the Flames during his tenure and has been a heavily relied-upon player in all game situations.
But this could potentially be Lindholm’s only potential kick at the can in free agency, and you can understand some trepidation regarding re-upping with a club that’s won just a single playoff round since his arrival. The Flames are reportedly willing to throw oodles of money at Lindholm to get him to stay – our pal Pat Steinberg is under the impression the number is between $8.5-9 million per season for eight seasons – but Lindholm has reportedly yet to give the Flames a decision.
Lindholm’s the most important player the Flames need to figure out contractually this summer. But considering all the other dominoes that also need to topple with their other players, they can’t wait forever for him to decide his future.
