Good news, everyone!
The National Hockey League has released start times for the upcoming 2021-22 regular season! And that includes 82 games for the Calgary Flames!
For home dates, the start times are pretty much standardized:
  • 5 p.m. MT: 1 – Sat., Mar. 12 against Detroit
  • 7 p.m. MT: 25 – every weeknight, with three exceptions
  • 7:30 p.m. MT: 1 – Mon., Oct. 18 against Anaheim (the home opener)
  • 8 p.m. MT: 14 – Saturdays, plus Mon. Dec. 27 against Edmonton and Wed. Mar. 16 against New Jersey
For away dates, the start times obviously vary quite a bit:
  • 11 a.m. MT: 1 – Sat. Oct. 23 against Washington
  • 3 p.m. MT: 1 – Sun., Nov. 14 against Ottawa
  • 4 p.m. MT: 1 – Fri. Nov. 12 against Toronto
  • 5 p.m. MT: 14
  • 5:30 p.m. MT: 2
  • 6 p.m. MT: 7
  • 6:30 p.m. MT: 1 – Tue., Feb. 1 against Dallas
  • 7:30 p.m. MT: 1 – Wed., Feb. 2 against Arizona
  • 8 p.m. MT: 9
  • 8:30 p.m. MT: 4
In other words: if the Flames are playing at home, it’s probably a 7 p.m. MT start if it’s a weekday game and an 8 p.m. MT start if it’s on the weekend. For road games, it varies considerably, so consult your television listings. If you’re curious about the wild variation in start times for road games, it’s the first season for two new American television partners (Turner Sports and ESPN) and it seems probable that the weird times are meant to facilitate TV schedules and/or double-headers for the broadcast partners.
