The National Hockey League’s annual entry draft is rapidly approaching, which means we’re firmly in mock draft season (or szn, as the kids say). Over at FC Hockey, they’ve put together an updated mock draft following the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Final.
The folks at FC Hockey have the Calgary Flames selecting Owen Sound Attack winger Colby Barlow at 16th overall.

Here’s their rationale:
The Calgary Flames look to add more scoring punch to their lineup with the selection of Colby Barlow, a heavy and mature forward that already looks the part of a future middle-six NHL forward. Barlow boasts a pro-ready frame and habits, as he doesn’t shy away from playing in hard areas in the offensive zone and can win pucks around the crease to bury pucks while also having the ability to score from the circles with his hard, accurate shot.
A February 2005 born player from Orillia, Ontario, Barlow’s listed at 6’1″ and 187 pounds and he’s a left shot winger. He’s played the past two seasons with Owen Sound, serving as their captain this past season. He had 46 goals, 33 assists and 79 points in 59 games, leading all under-18 OHLers in goals and points. He was named the OHL’s and CHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year, made the OHL’s first all-star team, and represented Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup (winning gold) and the men’s Under-18 World Championship (capturing bronze).
In short: Barlow had himself a really strong year and has positioned himself quite well for the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft. Time will tell if he lands with the Flames at 16th overall when the NHL Draft unfolds. Round 1 goes June 28 (and rounds 2-7 go June 29) in Nashville, TN.
