This coming May is the 40th anniversary of the Atlanta Flames moving to Calgary. To commemorate this occasion, we’re counting down the Top 40 Calgary Flames in history.
We were limited at 40 players so a few missed the cut. But there’s one individual that missed the cut that deserves some special attention. That man? The Eliminator, Martin Gelinas.
In the grand scheme of things, Gelinas was a Flame for basically 30 seconds. He’s 98th in Flames history in points and tied for 146th in games played. But while he was a Flame, he was excellent.
Playing primarily with Craig Conroy and Jarome Iginla, Gelinas spent two seasons with the Flames. He’s best known for his superb performances during the 2004 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Here’s a quick snapshot of some of his best work.

Gelinas doesn’t have the overall body of work to crack the Top 40. He was so so close to doing so, but he just couldn’t break in. But when you score three playoff round-winning goals, you deserve special praise for your contributions.
